Japanese Laundry Basket

The sun shone through the window, casting a warm light on the small laundry basket that sat in the corner. It was a simple, wooden thing, with a few chips in the paint and a handle that looked like it had seen better days. It had seen many a wash day, and been witness to countless laundry trips up and down the stairs. It had seen the washing hung out on the line, and the clothes brought back in, damp and heavy with the scent of sunshine and fresh air.

Inside the basket lay a few pieces of clothing. An aging shirt, a pair of jeans, a pair of socks. All of them had been carefully folded, as if they were preparing for a journey. A journey to the washing machine, where they would be cleaned, and made fresh and new once more.

The basket itself was an integral part of the process. It was the vehicle that carried the dirty clothes and brought them back clean. It was a simple thing, but it was important. Without it, the dirty laundry would never make it to the washing machine, and the clean clothes would never make it back.

As the sun shone through the window, the small laundry basket sat quietly in the corner, patiently awaiting its next mission.
